Trinity, Texas – After a rain-soaked opening two days, the United States team won the Spirit International Amateur Championship while Mississippi State's Ally McDonald posted a top-5 finish.
The USA squad notched a 33-under-par score to win by six strokes at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, on Saturday.
In a tournament where individual winners were named by total amount of birdies and eagles, McDonald finished tied for fifth with 10 birdies. Her best round was her opening round where she fired four birdies for a 4-under-par 68.
The France women’s team claimed the women’s team title at 12-under-par, edging out McDonald and Ashlan Ramsey by one shot. Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Niebrugge captured the men’s team title with a combined score of 22-under-par.
With five players in a playoff, Julien Brun of France captures the men's individual title. Brooke Henderson of Canada won the women’s individual title with 13 birdies.
McDonald will be back competing with the Bulldogs in the Seminole Challenge Feb. 14-16in Tallahassee, Fla., at Southwood Golf Course.
