PENSACOLA, Fla. – After a USTA Futures showcase for the Mississippi State men’s tennis returnees last week, the Bulldog newcomers are taking their turn in the spotlight this week as Robin Haden and Florian Lakat moved to the second round of qualifying at the 2013 USTA Pensacola Futures on Friday.
Haden picked up the first victory for MSU with an impressive straight-set win against Alexandru Sturzu. Lakat followed shortly, picking up a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Douglas Todeschini Boe.
State’s third newcomer, Tassilo Schmid, faced off against Joseph Cadogan, falling in a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
With the wins, Haden and Lakat advance to the second round of qualifying play on Saturday. Both Bulldogs will need three victories to advance to main draw play in the event.
