MSU’s victory at the par-72 7,245-yard Grandover Resort last season was the first for Clay Homan’s squad since 2009.
“As we enter the last couple of weeks of our fall season, it's important that we start to compete like we all know we can,” Coach Homan said. “We had several days of productive practice and playing, and I see a more confident group than where we were two weeks ago. Last season, this tournament propelled us to a good run and we look for the same to happen this year.”
The Bulldogs will seek to hold off a talented field that includes host UNC-Greensboro, Chattanooga, Georgia State, High Point, No. 30 Iowa State, No. 33 Memphis, North Carolina, N.C. State, No. 31 Purdue, VCU, No. 10 Virginia Tech, Washington State and William & Mary.
The senior trio of Chad Ramey, Joe Sakulpolphaisan and Barrett Edens will lead Homan’s squad Saturday, with sophomore Ben Wood and true freshman Ben Follett-Smith rounding out the lineup.
In three outings, Ramey has posted an eighth, 11th and 27th-place cards.
Follett-Smith made his first collegiate start at the Jerry Pate two weeks ago, posting an 11-over-par 221 to complete an impressive first outing for the Zimbabwe native.
Homan’s squad will play 36 holes on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday, with both days beginning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
