STARKVILLE, Miss. – Basketball is finally back at Humphrey Coliseum.

In an open split-squad 20-minute scrimmage for Mississippi State, the Maroon team routed the White squad 42-15 on Wednesday night.

The Maroon, mostly consisting of returning veterans from last season’s squad, started the game with an impressive 22-2 run. Roquez Johnson and Fred Thomas combined for 16 of the opening 22 points.

Thomas led all scorers with 13 points, while Johnson finished with 12 points.

Freshman point guard IJ Ready, who saw action for both squads, tallied 10 points and two assists. Tyson Cunningham led all players with three assists and three steals, while Gavin Ware led all players with nine rebounds to go along with his six points.

The Bulldogs open their 2013-2014 schedule on Nov. 3 with an exhibition against Auburn Montgomery at 3 p.m. Regular season play will begin on Nov. 8 as MSU hosts Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m.
