Angus, Stropp Move To Qualifying Finals At USTA Players’ Choice Open

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After wins on day three of the 2013 USTA Players’ Choice Open Sunday, Mississippi State men’s tennis senior Malte Stropp and sophomore Jordan Angus have advanced to the final round of qualifying play.

Stropp faced off against Carl Abalos on Sunday, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 victory to move to the final round, where he will face David O’Leary of Memphis for a chance to advance to main draw play. Angus picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win against Adam Zaorski to pull within a win of the main draw. Angus will face fellow MSU Bulldog Zach White, who is taking the fall semester off and rejoining the team in the spring, in the qualifying finals.

Should Angus and Stropp pick up victories Monday and advance to the main draw, play will begin Tuesday, Oct. 22.
