AUBURN, Ala. – On the third day of competition in the ITA Southern Regional Championships Sunday, Mississippi State had one player advance to the finals of singles consolation, while its top doubles team fell in a heartbreaker in the main draw semifinals.
Senior Alexandra Perper competed in the consolation singles quarterfinals against Jacqui Katz of Tulane, notching a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8) victory. Perper’s success launched her into the semifinals, where she defeated Jackie Kasler of host Auburn 6-4, 6-2. Perper’s two wins advanced her into the final round of consolation singles on Monday, where she will meet Reka Muller of Auburn at 10 a.m. CT.
After winning their first three matches this weekend, the 48th-ranked and fourth-seeded State doubles team of Perper and Naomi Tran dropped a hard-fought semifinal Sunday, falling 8-7(6) to the top-seeded and 23rd-ranked Jackie Kasler and Jen Pfiefler, also of host Auburn.
In consolation doubles, Bulldogs Rosie Dion and Georgiana Patrasc endured an 8-4 setback to Ariel Morton and Ella Taylor of LSU while Petra Ferancova and Timea Guibe dropped their match to Skylar Holloway and Gabriel Otero of LSU, also by an 8-4 score.
