STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State wraps its final trip outside the Magnolia State Sunday afternoon when the Bulldogs head to Nashville to meet Vanderbilt in a 1 p.m. kickoff that will be televised live on CSS.
The Bulldogs and Commodores enter Sunday looking to pick up their first league wins. State fell to 3-11 overall, 0-7 in SEC play with a 5-0 setback at Georgia Friday, while Vanderbilt ran its record to 3-9-3 on the year, 0-6-1 in conference action with a wild 5-4 overtime setback to Arkansas.
Sunday’s contest will feature two of the SEC’s top scorers, as State’s Elisabeth Sullivan and Vandy’s Cheyna Williams are knotted at 12 goals each this season.
Sullivan will look to halt a three-match scoreless drought against a Commodore squad she has scored three times against in the last two meetings.
The Memphis native will aim to ignite the Bulldog offense while the defense will seek to contain Williams’ potent attack.
Williams sparked Vanderbilt in Friday’s overtime setback, scoring two goals and assisting two more to bring her season tally to 28 points.
Shannon Morrish stopped seven shots in goal, giving her 36 saves and eight goals surrendered in six matches.Fans can follow MSU soccer on Twitter (@HailStateSOC), Facebook (Facebook.com/HailStateSOC) and Instagram (HailStateSOC).
