STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State softball team will play its final four games of the fall season this weekend, hosting doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. The Bulldogs host Wallace State Community College at 1 p.m. CT Saturday and Itawamba Community College at 3 p.m. CT Sunday to wrap up the fall campaign. Admission and parking are FREE on Saturday and Sunday.
MSU earned a doubleheader sweep Sunday, downing Shorter College 3-0 and 7-6. Senior Alison Owen struck out 14 batters in the opener while junior Ashley Phillips drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth in the second contest.
Phillips reached base in all seven plate appearances during the doubleheader and sophomore leadoff batter Loryn Nichols reached in six of seven.
MSU returns six starting position players and 13 letterwinners from last year's team, which posted a 33-24 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Mobile Regional. The Bulldogs also welcome six freshmen and one junior transfer to their squad.
