MSU Women’s Tennis Team Set To Begin Play at ITA Southern Regionals
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Beginning this Friday, the Mississippi State women’s tennis team will pick back up with 2013 fall action, as the Bulldogs will compete in the ITA Southern Regional Championships hosted by Auburn.
Mississippi State will be represented in the event by returning seniors Rosie Dion and Alexandra Perper, as well as juniors Petra Ferancova and Naomi Tran. Also competing will be All-SEC sophomore Georgiana Patrasc and true freshman Timea Guibe.
The Bulldogs have already seen success this year, as the doubles duo of Perper and Tran is ranked nationally by the ITA at No. 48, and Patrasc is currently ranked a career best No. 76 in singles.
Patrasc advanced to the qualifying finals at the ITA All-American Championships during her first play this fall, picking up a top 40 along the way. Dion found success in her first action of 2013, going undefeated in the Ragin’ Cajun Classic. Guibe won the consolation draw in her bracket at that same event.
“All our girls had some solid results in the first tournaments of the year,” Greenan said. “Practices have been going well and we are expecting a strong showing at regionals this weekend.”
Other competitors in the ITA Southern Regionals include Auburn, Alabama, Nicholls State, Tulane, South Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, McNeese State, Louisiana Tech, ULM, Samford, Troy and UAB.
Action starts Friday beginning with doubles at 8 a.m. CT. Each day’s play will begin at 8 a.m. until the final day (Oct. 21), which is slated to start at 10 a.m.
