Road To Omaha Begins Friday For Diamond Dawgs

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Four months after concluding the best season in school history with a magical run to Omaha and the College World Series Championship Series, the Mississippi State baseball team returns to the diamond this weekend for its first scrimmages of the 2013-14 season. The Bulldogs will scrimmage at Dudy Noble Field at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, before wrapping the weekend with intrasquad showdowns at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday. Admission is free.

Before the scrimmages, the team will practice at 2:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The Bulldogs are led by team captain Wes Rea as well as All-Americans Jonathan Holder and Ross Mitchell. Fans will get a first-hand look at who will replace 2013 first-round draft pick Hunter Renfroe in right field, All-American NCAA hits leader Adam Frazier at shortstop and current Seattle Mariners’ prospect Nick Ammirati behind the plate at catcher.

Joining members of the 2013 national finalists is the nation’s number two recruiting class, who will make their public debut at “The Dude.” Fans attending this weekend will get an exclusive look at the fall roster as well as the complete 2014 schedule. In addition, one lucky fan Friday will win two tickets to the MSU homecoming football game vs. Bowling Green Saturday via the official baseball Twitter account, @HailStateBB.
