STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the first time ever, nationally-acclaimed pitching coach Butch Thompson and Mississippi State baseball will host a drop-down pitching camp, to be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. Joining the Bulldogs’ associate head coach from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be former Major League Baseball players Chad Bradford, Scott Sullivan, Jeff Innis and Colter Bean.

“We are very excited about hosting such a unique camp for pitchers this December,” Thompson said. “With over 30 years of Big League experience, drop-down pitchers from all over the country will have a chance to develop their talents on the mound for maximum use.”

The camp is designed to provide intensive instruction on all aspects of drop-down pitching. Pitchers in grades 9-12 can sign up for the camp now at HailState.com/camps. The cost of the one-day session is $200, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. in the Palmeiro Center on campus. Lunch will be provided and each camper will receive a Mississippi State baseball shirt.

Thompson, named one of the top assistants in college baseball by Perfect Game, was one of two pitching coaches nationally in 2013 to have a staff in the top 15 nationally in ERA, strikeouts per nine innings and hits allowed per nine innings. Led by All-American drop-down pitcher Chad Girodo, who will also work December’s camp, Thompson’s staff finished top two in the country in double plays. This past June thanks to Thompson’ guidance, Girodo was one of five Bulldog pitchers to be selected in the MLB Draft.

For more information on the camp, contact Coach Thompson at BThompson@athletics.msstate.edu.

The Bulldogs' quest for their 10th trip to Omaha begins this Friday as the they begin team practices with a 2:30 p.m. start time at Dudy Noble Field, followed by a 4:30 p.m. scrimmage.
