STARKVILLE, Miss. – This Saturday, the Mississippi State women’s tennis team will begin its fall campaign, as the Lady Bulldogs will make their way to the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The tournament, being played at the Riviera Tennis Club, is the first major of the college tennis season.
The veteran Perper will open play in the prequalifying draw on Saturday against Whitney Ritchie of Oklahoma at 1 p.m. PT. She will need to win three matches to advance to qualifying, which begins Tuesday. Perper has been ranked in the top 100 nationally during her career.
Patrasc, a true freshman last season, will open play in qualifying draw, which begins Tuesday. Patrasc was named to the 2013 All-Southeastern Conference Team, claiming second-team honors and her preseason ITA ranking to open this fall was a new career best, as she came in at No. 76 nationally in singles.
Perper and Tran are also entered into the qualifying draw on Tuesday in doubles. They enter the season ranked at No. 48 in doubles by the ITA.
All of State’s contingent will look to advance to the tournament’s main draw, which begins Thursday, October 3.
“The All-American is a prestigious event and I am happy we have three girls this year who qualified based on their national rankings,” Greenan said. “I feel like they have done a great job preparing and I think they are ready for this first big test. It is always very exciting to see how the girls compete in their first event of the season.”
