NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp continue to dominate in doubles at the 2013 SEC Fall Classic, as the Mississippi State duo advanced to the championship match of the Vanderbilt-hosted event with two more impressive victories in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday.
Saturday’s first test for the sixth-ranked and second-seeded MSU tandem came in the form of Texas A&M’s No. 12 team of Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant in a quarterfinal battle. The two squads fought back-and-forth for most of the match, before Angus and Stropp put together a series of breaks late, taking the win 8-5.
The win set up a semifinal showdown between the MSU duo and Georgia’s fourth-seeded team of Nathan Pasha and Hernus Pieters. Much like the quarterfinals, it was tough battle of the Bulldogs, with the Maroon and White earning breaks late to take the match 8-5.
The wins now set up a Sunday championship showdown between Angus and Stropp and the 13th-ranked Vanderbilt duo of Ryan Lipman and Gonzales Austin. The championship match is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. CT Sunday.
“I’m very impressed with the play of Jordan (Angus) and Malte (Stropp) so far,” coach Per Nilsson said. “It’s been an overall good start and it’s very telling of what we’re doing well and what we need to do to improve.”
