STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the Southeastern Conference schedule on the horizon, the Mississippi State volleyball team (7-4) looks to extend its four-match winning streak as it closes out nonconference play with the Bruin Classic Friday and Saturday at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tenn.

MSU will open with the home-standing Belmont Bruins (4-9) Friday night at 6:30 p.m. before facing UAB (10-3) at 10 a.m. and Arkansas State (4-7) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

“Playing these teams on the road will be a good challenge to gear up for SEC play,” fifth-year MSU coach Jenny Hazelwood said. “Belmont, UAB and Arkansas State are all teams that will show us different looks and give us the opportunity to work on a few things before next weekend.”

The Bulldogs’ winning streak is their longest since winning four straight in Sept. of 2011. Prior to that, MSU’s longest wining streak was seven consecutive to begin the 2010 campaign.

With seven nonconference wins thus far, State is just one shy of tying the most in a single season during the Hazelwood era of eight during the 2010 season.

Sophomore libero Roxanne McVey is still on her record-setting pace with 6.10 digs per set. The Magnolia, Texas, native set the SEC record (5.64) a season ago and currently ranks second nationally in the category.

Chelsea Duhs currently owns the SEC’s fourth-best hitting percentage at .401 after her Most Valuable Player performance in the Bulldog Invitational. Fellow freshman Kimmy Gardiner also ranks fourth in the conference in both kills per set (4.08) and digs per set (4.55).

Live video for MSU’s Friday match against Belmont will be available free of charge through the Ohio Valley Conference, while live stats for all three matches will be available on HailState.com.

The Bulldogs open SEC play at home Friday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. against No. 4 Florida (9-1) followed by Arkansas (6-3) on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m.
