STARKVILLE, Miss. – First serve is finally here as the Mississippi State volleyball team is set to begin its 39th season with the Maroon Classic Friday and Saturday in the Newell-Grissom Building. The Bulldogs will first face the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks at 1 p.m. on Friday followed by a 7 p.m. nightcap against the UALR Trojans.

MSU will again play UALR at 1 p.m. and SEMO at 7 p.m. Saturday, while SEMO and UALR will only play once at 4 p.m. Friday

"We're excited about opening the season this weekend," fifth-year MSU coach Jenny Hazelwood said. "There has been a great deal of energy and enthusiasm during our preseason practices, and you can sense the excitement about the start of the new season. We have a very young and talented team that is ready to show what they’re capable of on the court.”

Admission to all volleyball matches is free. Schedule posters and cards will also be available at each of this weekend’s matches.

All matches in the Maroon Classic will also be available on HailStateTV free of charge and there is no need to register. Fans should simply visit www.HailState.com/hstvlive and click on the video link that appears at match time for each contest.

Ten new faces will dress out in the Maroon and White for the first time this weekend and it will also mark the debuts of assistant coaches Greg Walker and Samantha Wolinski. MSU boasts one of the youngest rosters in the SEC with 13 underclassmen, second only to South Carolina’s 14.

Up next, the Bulldogs hit the road for non-conference tournament play in Waco, Texas, with the Baylor Classic on Sept. 6 and 7 before returning home for the Bulldog Invitational on Sept. 13 and 14. The non-conference slate will conclude with the Belmont Bruins Classic on Sept. 20 and 21 in Nashville, Tenn.
