MEDELLIN, Columbia – Sophomore Bulldog Brandon McBride sped past competitors with ease on Friday as he dominated the 400-meter dash at the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships in Medellin, Columbia.
Representing Canada, the Windsor, Ontario native clocked a personal-best 46.09 to finish ahead of the competition during the preliminaries. Later in the day, McBride set another personal record, running an unrivaled 45.89 to capture the win.
“After such a long year with all the injuries and problems, it is truly extra special to run a personal best,” McBride said. “I owe it to all the people who supported me when I was down and out, especially Coach Steve Dudley. I can’t put into words how he has impacted my life.”
Still to come, Scottie Hearn will race in the 400-meter hurdles tomorrow. The sophomore from Meridian, Miss., finished second in the event at this year’s Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships (50.56) and won his race at the 2013 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships (51.01).
