STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the fifth time in seven days, the Mississippi State softball team (29-16) will play a game in the state of Alabama. Starkville's Team will play Middle Tennessee State (5-42) Monday at 6 p.m. CT at Shea Brothers Softball Complex in Irondale, Ala., located at 500 Vulcan Drive. The last-minute addition to the schedule is a makeup for previously scheduled games which were canceled due to rain and other circumstances.
State owns a 3-1 record all-time against the Blue Raiders. The Bulldogs split a doubleheader (8-0 & 5-6) in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on March 17, 2005, before sweeping a doubleheader in Starkville one year later on March 28, 2006 (9-3 & 13-1). Monday’s game marks the first neutral-site meeting between the two schools.
Bulldogs’ Head Coach Vann Stuedeman is looking to continue her non-conference dominance. Stuedeman has won 35 of her last 42 games outside of the SEC (83 percent), including a 22-5 mark this season. From Feb. 23-March 15, 2013, MSU rode a 13-game non-conference winning streak, tying for the third-longest such streak in school history.
The only other time MSU played in Irondale under Stuedeman was Oct. 21, 2011, when the Bulldogs defeated Jacksonville State, 3-2, on a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the sixth. The game was part of Stuedeman's first fall exhibition season as head coach.
