STARKVILLEMiss, -- Mississippi State Lady Bulldog tennis will conclude the 2013 regular season hosting a big weekend of conference competition against the newest members of the league. The weekend will begin with a match against No. 3 Texas A&M Friday at 3 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre and will wrap up with a Sunday match against No. 51 ranked Missouri at 1 p.m.

State currently stands at 7-12 on the season, 1-10 in the SEC. MSU nearly pulled off an upset in a Friday match against No. 29 South Carolina last week, taking wins on courts 3, 5 and 6 in the team’s 4-3 loss. Following its match against USC, MSU traveled to Gainesville to take on the No. 2 ranked Lady Gators of Florida. Florida posted a 4-0 victory over MSU, but Georgiana Patrasc and Alexandra Perper of the Lady Bulldogs had both split sets against top 15 opponents when play was suspended. Patrasc was facing the nation's No. 1 ranked singles player on court 1, and Perper competed against the country's No. 12 player on court 2.

MSU currently boasts a ranked doubles pair on their roster. Perper pairs up with sophomore Naomi Tran to hold the No. 73 spot in the ITA doubles rankings released earlier this week.

Friday's opponent, Texas A&M (18-2, 10-1 SEC), touts three ranked singles players. Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar of the Lady Aggies holds the No. 4 singles ranking, Nazari Urbina stands at the No. 52 slot, and the No. 65 spot is held by Cristina Stancu. Stancu pairs up with Stefania Hristov to form the nation's No. 15 doubles team. Sanchez-Quintanar teams up with Wen Sun to stand at No. 56. Sun also holds the No. 81 ranked position when paired up with A&M senior Nazari Urbina.

A&M took down No. 7 ranked Alabama in the team’s most recent competition in a closely contested 4-3 decision.

Following the weekend’s competition, Mississippi State will prepare to host the 2013 SEC Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held at the Pitts Tennis Centre April 17-21 as a part of Super Bulldog Weekend festivities.
