STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following a closely contested 4-3 win in a marathon match against the No. 54 ranked Lady Tigers of LSU this past Sunday, the Mississippi State Lady Bulldog tennis squad (7-9, 1-7 SEC) is set to face in-state rival, the No. 37 ranked Lady Rebels of Ole Miss (7-9, 3-5), in a road matchup Friday at 1 p.m.
Lady Bulldog true freshman Georgiana Patrasc will lead State into Oxford. Patrasc appeared in the ITA national rankings for the first time in her career this week, resting at the No. 124 slot in the rankings. That comes on the heels of an impressive 6-2, 6-1 triumph over LSU’s Kaitlin Burns at the No. 1 position Sunday.
“Georgiana has had a solid freshman year,” said head coach Daryl Greenan. “She has won some big matches for us and picked up some quality wins along the way. She’s is a big part of our promising future."
Roseline Dion also exhibited excellent play in the team’s match against the Lady Tigers. Dion posted a 6-3, 6-3 win on court 5 of singles play to assist in the MSU victory. She also paired with Patrasc to take a 9-8(4) court three doubles triumph to clinch the team win.
The Lady Rebels notched two consecutive 4-0 wins against Jackson State in their most recent competition. No. 45 ranked Caroline Rhode-Moe leads Ole Miss, followed by 82nd-ranked Mai El Kamash. Rhode-Moe and Marija Milutinovic team up to form the nation's 53rd-ranked doubles duo for UM.
“We played well in our last match and got a big win over LSU,” said Greenan. “We are going to have to raise our level again tomorrow against a very strong Ole Miss team."
