Bulldog Soccer Adds Three More Standouts For 2013 Season
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Aaron Gordon’s inaugural Mississippi State soccer team added three more standouts for 2013 as Netherlands forward Annebel ten Broeke and Florida prepsters Jamila Coner and Darbi Filliben signed letters of intent with the Bulldogs.
“We are excited about signing these three players to our 2013 class,” Gordon said. “Annebel, Jamila and Darbi are players who will impact the future of our program. Each of them brings a wealth of experience and will be welcome additions to our talented class. The ability to add players of their skill a month after Signing Day is a testament to the hard work of our staff.”
The trio joins Chelsi Bender (Freehold, N.J.), Savannah Boswell (Niceville, Fla.), Tiffany Huddleston (Starkville, Miss.), Meara Johnson (Brampton, Ontario, Canada), Abby Phillips (Tupelo, Miss.) and Kayla Puzas (Atlanta, Ga.) in comprising Gordon’s first Bulldog signing class.
Annebel ten Broeke – F; 5-11; Amsterdam, Netherlands (Berlage Lyceum/CTO Amsterdam)
International: Selected to numerous Netherlands youth national team camps… Currently an invitee to the Netherlands’ U19 national team camp… Played in a pair of games for the Netherlands National Team at age 15… Selected for all region teams she tried out for.
Club: Plays for the Center for Education & Topsport Amsterdam and head coach Maria Kortenhof… Part of a CTO Amsterdam program that develops players to compete in the professional league of the Netherlands.
High School: Attends Berlage Lyceum but does not play soccer.
Personal: Born Anne-Isabel ten Broeke Aug. 15, 1995, in Amerstdam… Daughter of Freek ten Broeke and Pascale Jansen… Has two siblings: Justus and Floris.
Jamila Coner – MF; 5-1; Dallas, Texas (American Heritage [Fla.] School/West Pines Strikers)
High School/Club: Outstanding midfielder that helped guide head coach Cindy Marcial’s 2013 American Heritage High School squad to a 26-2 record and the FHSAA 3A state championship… Led American Heritage to a No. 2 state and No. 7 national ranking from MaxPreps… Named All-Broward County Second Team and second team all-state following her senior campaign… Also named Most Valuable Player of the state finals by MaxPreps… Defeated Ponte Vedra in a state finals rematch after falling in penalty kicks her junior season… Led the 2011-12 Patriots to a No. 9 national ranking by MaxPreps and the top spot in the state polls following a 31-1-1 finish… Played club soccer for Rohan Shakes’ West Pines Strikers U18 squad after co-captaining Coach Chris Ring’s FC Dallas ECNL U17 squad.
Personal: Born Jamila Monique Coner July 18, 1995, in Fayetteville, Ark… The daughter of Errol and Gretchen Coner… Has two siblings: Trae and Jabari.
Darbi Filliben – D; 5-8; Oviedo, Fla. (Hagerty HS/Orlando City Youth Soccer ECNL ’95)
High School/Club: Standout defender for Rodney Kenney’s Hagerty High School program… A first team All-Seminole Athletic Conference and All-Central Florida selection… Took Hagerty to a second-straight district championship and the region semifinals as a senior, anchoring a back line that surrendered just 10 goals in the regular season… Won district and region championships her junior year en route to a state runner-up finish… Claimed district and region runner-up honors with Hagerty her sophomore season… Served as team captain for Hue Menzies’ Orlando City Youth Soccer ECNL ’95 team… Also played freshman volleyball for Hagerty.
Personal: Born Darbi Nicole Filliben Feb. 16, 1995, in Orlando, Fla… Daughter of Ed and Gemma Filliben… Has a sister, Danielle.
