Gainesville, Fla. - Following a stellar first-round 13-over-par 293, the Mississippi State women's golf team posted a 303 in the second round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational for a season-best two-round 597 tally. The Lady Bulldogs are currently tied for ninth entering the final round.

"It was a completely different round today," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "Windy conditions, we are within two shots of the North Carolina, Baylor and Florida State and really left shots out there. At the same time, we never gave up either. This course has a way of taking self-confidence from players.  We are learning and gaining critical experience for the future: how to play with highly ranked teams and expect the same from yourself and your teammates."

MSU is tied with No. 49 Florida State after a 23-over performance, just two strokes behind No. 6 North Carolina and one stroke behind No. 18 Baylor.

Third-ranked Alabama used a second-round 13-over 293 to take control of the leaderboard with a 19-over-par 579. No. 5 Florida and No. 4 Oklahoma are tied for second with a 582.

"The reigning national champions, Alabama, only have us by nine shots per day," Brown-Lemm added. "That is encouraging for our young squad. The super-strong field will provide a boost to our strength of schedule, which will influence our postseason NCAA first-round opportunities."

Ally McDonald also maintained her Top 10 card individually with a 4-over-par 74. The Fulton, Miss., native climbed as high as sixth before bogeying two of her final three holes. Her two-round 5-over-par 145 leaves her just four strokes shy of her second-consecutive Top 3 finish.

Freshman Gabi Oubre' posted a 7-over-par 77 and held onto her Top 25 card. Her two-round 8-over-par 148 is tied for 21st and is also second-best on the Lady Bulldog club, just ahead of sophomore Elena Warren.

Warren's second-round 76 moved her just out of the Top 25 and into a share for 27th. Like Oubre', Warren is aiming for her first-career Top 25 finish. Her two-round 149 has the Austin, Texas, native just one stroke shy of that feat with 18 holes remaining.

Mary Langdon Gallagher carved three strokes off her first-round tally for a second-round 5-over-par 75, while Rica Tse bettered her score by four strokes for a 77. Gallagher sits at 13-over-par 153 after two rounds and Tse is at 158.

No. 31 Chirapat Jao-Javanil (Oklahoma) took control of the individual race after a 2-under-par 68. Her two-round 3-under-par 137 edged Portland Rosen (140) of Virignia and 15th-ranked Hayley Davis (141) of Baylor.

Final-round action will begin with 7:30 a.m. CST shotgun Sunday.
