Opelika, Ala. - Spring break for the Mississippi State men's golf team will not be from the beaches of the Gulf Coast, but from the greens of the Grand National Golf Course for the Tiger Invitational.
State will tee-off the week with a visit to Opelika, Ala., for a 36-hole shotgun start on Monday. The tourney will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs will look to expand on their five top five finishes so far, after finishing with a fourth-place tie from the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate way back on Feb. 18-19.
"We look forward to getting back to competing over the spring break," Coach Clay Homan said. "This is an important week for us with two events in a seven day period. We will face some quality teams, so we will have to be on top of our games. Our goal is just to keep improving every day and I believe good results will follow."
Host Auburn and the Wildcats of Kentucky join MSU as the only SEC clubs. The 15-team field also includes: Charlotte, Chattanooga, East Carolina, Houston, Kennesaw State, North Carolina, Memphis, Samford, South Alabama, Troy, Wake Forest and Yale.
The Bulldogs lineup will lead off with junior Chad Ramey for the seventh-consecutive tournament. Followed by juniors Joe Sakulpolphaisan and Axel Boasson, sophomore Fletcher Johnson and senior Robi Calvesbert.
Ramey seeks his fourth top five finish on the year; his three so far are a team best. The Fulton, Miss., native's best finish before this season was a fifth-place tie in 2010's Sam Hall.
Sakulpolphaisan and Boasson have both racked up top 25 performances this season. Boasson has four on the year, while Sakulpolphaisan has a team-best six top 25 cards this season.
Tupelo, Miss., native Johnson makes his third appearance this season at the Tiger Invitational. He is coming off his best performance of the year after a 13th-place showing at Mobile Bay.
Senior leader Calvesbert will round out the Bulldog lineup. He has placed in the top 25 four times this season.
MSU will tee off at 8 a.m. Monday morning. Ramey will be paired with North Carolina's Bailey Patrick and Chattanooga's Steven Fox.
