Lady Bulldog Tennis Defeats Wisconsin 4-3

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Mississippi State's Lady Bulldog tennis squad (4-2) finished off its first weekend of 2013 road play with an impressive 4-3 win against the Lady Badgers of Wisconsin Saturday in a neutral site matchup.

To begin doubles play, MSU's duo of Petra Ferancova and Georgina Patrasc defeated Wisconsin's pair of Hannah Berner and Helen Rabot at the No. 3 position in an 8-0 decision. Wisconsin's pair of Lauren Chypyha and Lauren Burich evened the doubles score, taking down the Bulldog pair of Lien Van Geel and Sarai Flores 8-2 on court 2.

Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran for the Lady Bulldogs paired up to clinch the doubles point in favor of MSU, posting an 8-5 win against Katie Hoch and Anastasia Tripolskaya of Wisconsin at the No. 1. position.

Singles played out in favor of the Lady Bulldogs early on, as Perper raised the MSU lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Burner of Wisconsin at the top spot. The Lady Bulldog freshman Flores continued the MSU streak with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court 6 against Helen Rabot for the Lady Badgers.

Patrasc, a native of Romania for the Lady Bulldogs, clinched MSU's fourth victory of the season with an impressive 6-0, 6-3 win over Chypyha of Wisconsin at the No. 2 position.

The Lady Badgers would post three consecutive wins on the remaining courts, beginning with a win for Wisconsin's Burich on court 4. Burich defeated MSU's Ferancova 7-6(6), 3-0 after Ferancova retired. Tripolskaya of Wisconsin followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against MSU's Van Geel at the No. 5 position. Hoch of Wisconsin completed the day's competition, downing Tran 6-4, 1-6, 1-0(5) in a closely contested match on court 3.

"The girls did a good job bouncing back and getting a solid win after such a tough loss yesterday," said head coach Daryl Greenan. "Once again, the doubles point was crucial and this time we won that battle."
