STARKVILLE, Miss. - Following a solid 6-1 victory against the University of New Orleans in its last outing, Mississippi State Lady Bulldog tennis prepares to host their first ranked opponent of the season, the 36th-ranked Lady Cowgirls of Oklahoma State. The contest is set to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. Due to colder temperatures, the match could possibly be moved indoors to McCarthy Gymnasium. A decision concerning the location of the match will be made approximately 3 hours before match time.
Freshmen will be a crucial component for the Lady Bulldogs to remain undefeated Saturday. Overall Sarai Flores, Georgiana Patrasc, and Lien Van Geel have posted a 7-2 singles record over the course of their debut dual season. Veteran No. 1 player Alexandra Perper is 2-0 on the young season. Naomi Tran, Petra Ferancova and Rosie Dion round out the MSU roster. State has also been strong in doubles thus far in 2013, standing at 6-1 overall as a team.
The MSU squad will face their toughest competition of the season as they take on OSU. The Cowgirls, 4-1 overall headed into a match at No. 26 Ole Miss Friday afternoon, hold two singles rankings in addition to their #36 position as a team. Senior Malika Rose holds the #75 singles slot nationally, while sophomore Meghan Blevins claims the #125 spot in the ITA rankings.
"Oklahoma State will be the biggest challenge we have had yet this season. We are very excited about the opportunity," said head coach Daryl Greenan.
