GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Junior Chad Ramey fired off a 3-over-par in Saturday's opening 36 holes, to climb the leaderboards for a Top 20 showing at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. The stellar day by Ramey helped Mississippi State finish round two with a tie for 10th place at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

The Bulldogs began the day with a slow start, shooting a 296 for the opening round. MSU bounced back like they have done all season long, with a 284 for the next 18 holes. The 284 was the second-lowest second round score on the season for Clay Holman's squad.

"We came out this morning and didn't do a good job putting," Homan said. "Our speed was off and reading the greens gave us some problems. However, we got much better in the afternoon and put together a pretty nice second round. We must be sharper particularly around the greens to move up the leader board tomorrow."

MSU will have a tough go at it for the final 18, being 19 strokes behind the tourney leader Florida State. MSU is only two strokes shy of overtaking the ninth position at the Gator Invitational, which is currently occupied by the Memphis Tigers.

The Fulton, Miss., native Ramey shot four birdies on Saturday to aid his 3-over-par. Ramey shot an eagle to begin the second round, which propelled him to an even score for the second round.

Ramey's even score was not the only "E" on the scorecard for the Bulldogs, as sophomore Fletcher Johnson also shot even in the second round after shooting 7-over-par to begin the day. Johnson shot five birdies in round two for the Maroon and White. The Tupelo native's 70 for the second round was the lowest score for him on the season.

Junior Joe Sakulpolphaisan also nailed five birdies on the day giving the JUCO transfer a solid performance for Saturday. The Thailand product shot a 6-over-par for the first two rounds to tie for 36th.

Rounding out the Maroon and White's scorecard at the Gator Invitational were Axel Boasson and Robi Calvesbert. The junior, Boasson, had a nice showing with his 7-over-par to complete the first 36 holes. Senior Calvesbert finished the day at 9-over-par.

Leading the tournament were the Seminoles with a 1-over-par, 561. On top of the player leaderboard was Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes, who shot a 4-under-par to lead all golfers on day one.

Final round action begins at 9 a.m. CST with the Bulldogs slated to tee off at 9:30 alongside UCF and Jacksonville.
