Moore, following stellar careers at Northwest Rankin High School and Meridian Community College, starred at first base for the Bulldogs in 2008. The Brandon, Miss., native hit .299 and paced Mississippi State with 11 doubles, 14 home runs and 46 RBI. He signed with the Nationals after the National League Eastern Division team selected him in the 16th round. It was Moore's third drafting by Washington, who earlier had tabbed Moore in the 41st round in 2005 out of high school and the 33rdround in 2006 out of junior college.
After four seasons of minor league baseball in the National's organization, Moore received the call-up in April, making his MLB debut April 29 at Los Angeles. He hit .263 as a rookie, playing in 55 games with 35 starts in left field, right field or at first base while helping Washington in a successful run to the NL Eastern Division championship.
Atlanta Braves pitcher Paul Maholm was the featured "First Pitch" speaker in 2012.
Mississippi State launches its 123rd season of baseball and a school-record 37-game home schedule when the Bulldogs host first-time opponent Portland in a four-game weekend series Feb. 15-17 at Dudy Noble Field.
