STARKVILLE, Miss. - Hitting its first home run of 2013, the Mississippi State softball program led by Head Coach Vann Stuedeman announced the transfer of power hitter Logan Foulks Tuesday afternoon. Foulks arrives in Starkville from the University of North Carolina, where the hot-hitting infielder finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a .596 slugging percentage as a sophomore in 2012. The newest addition to the Maroon and White is eligible to compete immediately, beginning with MSU's 2013 season opener Feb. 7 at home vs. South Alabama at 6 p.m.

"Logan's passion and love for the game will be a huge asset for this team," Stuedeman said. "Her plate discipline is remarkable for being such a slugger at the dish, as evidenced by her 16 career home runs and her 44-40 career strikeout-to-walk ratio in only two seasons."

Instantly becoming one of the biggest impact transfers in the Southeastern Conference this spring, Foulks established herself as one of the top offensive threats in the ACC the last two seasons, batting .302 at the plate to go along with a two-year slugging percentage of .557. Of the Douglasville, Ga., native's 77 career hits, 42 percent of her base knocks have been for extra bases (33 XBH), while 48 percent of her extra-base hits have left the yard (16 HR).

Ironically, it was against her current team in the 2011 SEC/ACC Challenge where Foulks first made a name for herself collegiately. As a freshman for the Tar Heels on March 12, 2011 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the righty tallied career highs with five RBIs and two doubles against Mississippi State. Finishing the day 2-for-3 with a run scored, Foulks went on to earn All-ACC Tournament honors later in the year.

This past spring, Foulks quadrupled her home run total, going from four round-trippers to 16 in an impressive sophomore campaign in Chapel Hill. In the process, Foulks also nearly doubled the rest of her offensive output, including runs (15 to 28), hits (28 to 49), doubles (6 to 11) and RBIs (22 to 37).
