STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State softball Head Coach Vann Stuedeman announced the signing of Georgia prep star Mackenzie Toler Tuesday. Toler, a 5-foot-9 left-handed pitcher and first baseman from Fayetteville, Ga., registered a 0.60 ERA in the circle and recorded a .620 batting average at the plate during her senior season at Whitewater High School in Fayetteville. The left-hander is the fifth member of the 2013 signing class.

"We are so proud to have another southpaw join the program," said Stuedeman, whose sister Les coaches Toler's sister at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. "Mackenzie Toler is going to ignite our fan base. We cannot wait to get her here. Not only is she a great pitcher, but she swings a heavy bat."

Under the direction of Robert Townsend this fall as a senior, Toler led Whitewater to a 27-12-1 record and a third-place finish in the Class AAAAA state playoffs. During her final high school campaign, the lefty suffocated the opposition in the circle with 115 strikeouts in 128.0 innings. At the dish, the future kinesiology major was lethal, raking at a .620 clip with seven home runs, 32 RBIs and a .720 on-base percentage. For her efforts, Toler was named her region's player of the year.

"Coach Stuedeman is energetic, positive, passionate and a great motivator," Toler explained. "She is ambitious and hardworking and I'm looking forward to playing for her as a Bulldog at the next level."
