ATHENS, Ga. -  Georgia fought off a trio of set point serves by Mississippi State in the second stanza and went on to complete a series sweep of State with a straight sets win Wednesday evening at UGA's Ramsey Center. Georgia (14-15, 8-11 SEC) won the Thanksgiving Eve match 25-18, 28-26, 25-20.

The Bulldogs (4-24, 0-19 SEC) held their own for much of the match. State led 14-13 in the first stanza on a kill by Dani McCree, served three times at set point in the second set (24-23, 25-24 and 26-25), and trailed by as few as three points (21-18) late in the third set. UGA's Chloe Buckendahl served up four aces, three in a row as Georgia pulled away from a close battle early in the clinching third set.

State hit at an SEC season-best .252 clip, with freshman Taylor Scott tallying a match-high 13 kills and sophomore middle Lainey Wyman registering 11 point-producing swings on a .625 hitting night. Another Bulldog rookie, Sarah Nielsen, carded nine kills and a pair of solo blocks.

UGA nipped State 48-44 in kills for the match and placed three players in double figures in kills. Tirah Le'au had 12 while Brittany Northcutt and Lauren Teknipp followed with 11 each.

MSU freshman and SEC digs leader Roxanne McVey registered a match-high 19 digs as the visiting Bulldogs finished with a 54-49 lead in the defensive stat. McVey's school-record season total now stands at 543.

Mississippi State concludes its Thanksgiving week competition and wraps up its 38th season of volleyball Friday in Knoxville, Tenn., with a 6 p.m. (CST) match against defending SEC champ Tennessee.
