Senior Chanelle Baker, Bulldogs Wrap Up Home VB Slate Against Missouri
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Volleyball Bulldogs put the finishing touches on their 13-match home schedule for 2012 and bid farewell to their lone senior player Sunday afternoon when State (4-22, 0-17 SEC) hosts SEC newcomer Missouri (18-10, 9-8 SEC) at the Newell-Grissom Building. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. (CST) and there is no charge for admission.
Senior outside hitter Chanelle Baker (Carrollton, Texas) will be honored during pre-match ceremonies. Baker, who ranks third on the club and has set career-bests with 178 kills and 210 digs, tallied nine kills Friday night against Ole Miss, raising her 111-match career total to a team-best 602 kills.
Freshman libero Roxanne McVey (Magnolia, Texas), the SEC's digs leader, is poised to break MSU's record for digs in a season. McVey registered a match-high 14 digs against Ole Miss, raising her rookie season total to 501, fourth-most scoops in a season in 38 years of MSU volleyball. She needs 11 digs to surpass the school mark of 511 set in 2007 by Megan Lukasek.
State concludes its 2012 campaign with a Thanksgiving week road trip that includes a Wednesday evening match at Georgia and a season-ending Friday night match at defending SEC champion Tennessee.
