STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State lowers the curtains on its 13-match home volleyball schedule for 2013 this weekend when the Bulldogs (4-21, 0-16 SEC) welcome instate rival Ole Miss (10-15, 4-12 SEC) and league newcomer Missouri (18-9, 9-7 SEC) to the Newell-Grissom Building.
State hosts Ole Miss in a 7 p.m. (CST) match Friday and wraps up its home slate Sunday with a 1:30 p.m. (CST) battle with Missouri. The SEC volleyball matches are open to the public with no charge for admission. Free live video streaming of the two matches will also be available online at www.HaistateTV.com.
Outside hitter Chanelle Baker (Carrollton, Texas), the lone senior on MSU's 2012 squad, will be saluted during on-court ceremonies prior to Sunday's MSU-Mizzou match.
Freshman libero Roxanne McVey could lay claim to her second school record with solid defensive play this weekend. The Magnolia, Texas, product and season-long SEC leader in digs, begins the weekend with 487 digs, fifth-most in a season at Mississippi State. McVey is 25 scoops away from surpassing the school single-season digs mark of 511 set in 2007 by Megan Lukasek. The Bulldog rookie has eight matches with 25 or more digs, including a school and SEC-record 50-dig display September 28 against LSU.
Freshman Taylor Scott enters the weekend with a team-best 242 kills and ranks second on the club with 238 digs.
State concludes its 38th season of volleyball on the road Thanksgiving week with a Wednesday match at Georgia and a Friday match at Tennessee.
