Team White Takes World Series Opener At Dudy Noble Field

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Team White struck for six runs in the fifth inning Friday afternoon to claim a 6-2 win in the opener of the Maroon/White World Series underway at Dudy Noble Field.

Game two of the three-game series is set for a 3 p.m. first pitch, with junior right-hander Evan Mitchell working opposite senior lefty Chad Girodo. State closes out its fall practices and the Maroon/White World Series with a 1 p.m. (CST) game Sunday. All of the games are open to the public.

Junior shortstop Adam Frazier and senior catcher Nick Ammirati delivered two-run singles in the five-run burst while junior outfielder Hunter Renfroe paced Team White's 12-hit with a 3-for 4 plate performance. Sophomore outfielder Tyler Fullerton also singled twice.

Senior righty Kendall Graveman started and picked up the win with six solid innings of mound work. He scattered six hits, fanned four and walked one. Right-handers Myles Gentry and Callahan Brown combined to finish out the final three frames.

Senior catcher Mitch Slauter collected a pair of hits and drove in a run to lead the eight-hit Team Maroon attack. Freshman outfielder Jacob Robson doubled in one of the Maroon's two runs.

Junior righty Ben Bracewell took the loss in relief in relief of sophomore starter Jacob Lindgren, who worked five innings and allowed one run on five hits.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Junior righty Evan Mitchell will start for the White while the Maroon counters with senior southpaw Chad Girodo.
