VB Bulldogs Host Defending SEC Champ UT, West Rival Alabama
The Bulldogs take on the Lady Vols (15-6, 8-3 SEC) in a 7 p.m. (CDT) match Friday and face the Crimson Tide (14-11, 3-10 SEC) Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (CST). It's the first of two MSU-UT matches this month. The Bulldogs close out their 2012 campaign with a Nov. 23 match in Knoxville. Sunday's MSU-Alabama match is the lone volleyball meeting this fall between the Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide.
MSU water bottles will be distributed to the first 250 fans entering the Newell-Grissom Building Friday.
State played LSU and Florida Sept. 28-30 in their last matches at the Newell-Grissom Building and entertained South Carolina and Arkansas in Humphrey Coliseum Oct. 19-21 in their lone home matches in October.
Freshman libero Roxanne McVey, tops in the Southeastern Conference with 420 digs, registered her seventh 25-dig performance in her most recent outing. The Magnolia, Texas, product tallied 26 digs at LSU Sunday, climbing into MSU's all-time top 10 list for digs. She begins the weekend and State's seven-match November slate 91 digs away from the school-record 511 total registered by Megan Lukasek in 2007.
Freshmen Taylor Scott and Sarah Nielsen ranked first and second in kills with 209 and 174 respectively. Co-captain Chanelle Baker, the lone senior and one of only two upper classmen on the team, ranks third on the club with 146 kills, 185 digs and 35 blocks. In Friday's match she'll be playing opposite her sister, Tennessee sophomore Tiffany Baker.
