Marcus Green Named John Mackey Tight End of the Week
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State senior tight end Marcus Green was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week, the Nassau County Sports Commission announced Wednesday. Green is the only player thus far this season to earn the weekly national honor twice.
In the nationally-televised 41-31 victory against Tennessee last Saturday, the Scooba, Miss., native recorded a career-high six receptions for 71 yards and tied a career high with two touchdowns. During the 2012 season, five of Green's 13 catches (38 percent) have been for touchdowns. His five touchdowns tie him for third most among FBS tight ends this year.
This
past Monday, Green was named to the midseason watch list for the 2012 John
Mackey Award, given annually to the nation's top tight end. The 2012 recipient
of "The Mackey" will be announced at the Home Depot ESPNU College
Football Awards Red Carpet Show, to be aired live on ESPNU on Thursday, Dec. 6,
2012 at 6:30 p.m.
Fans can watch Green and his undefeated No. 15 Bulldogs return to action
Saturday night at Davis Wade Stadium for homecoming against the Middle
Tennessee Blue Raiders. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast
on ESPN2 and the Mississippi State Radio Network.
