Vestavia Hills, Ala.- With a talent-packed tournament that featured seven Top 50 squads, the Mississippi State golf team grabbed a seventh-place finish to cap off the 2012 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.

"We just didn't get it done this week," Bulldog head coach Clay Homan said. "We have to be much sharper than what we were; particularly on a demanding course with talented teams."

State turned in a 15-over-par 295 for the final round of the Jerry Pate on Tuesday. The Bulldogs posted a 44-over-par for the tournament; just four strokes behind sixth-place UAB. The host Crimson Tide of Alabama won the Jerry Pate after a come-from-behind victory over fellow SEC club Florida.

Senior Robi Calvesbert and junior Axel Boasson continued to build on their 2012 seasons as the pair each picked up a Top 25 finish. The fellow Bulldogs finished in a tie for the 19th slot on the Jerry Pate leaderboard to wrap up a quality performance.

Calvesbert shot a 6-over-par round one to begin play at the Old Overton Country Club, but the Puerto Rican native fought back to claim a great final two rounds. The senior clawed his way to fire off a 1-over-par second round and a 3-over-par third round. The 10-over-par total was aided by an eagle on 15 to help keep Calvesbert's score low for the final round. The eagle was Calvesbert's first of the season.

Iceland native Boasson began the third round with a 5-over-par two-round total, Boasson fired off a 5-over-par for Tuesday's final round to bring his total for the event to a 10-over-par. The Jerry Pate 10-over-par effort was good enough to hold on for Boasson's second Top 25 posting of the year.

Junior Chad Ramey's incredible streak of 11-consecutive Top 25 finishes came to an end at Vestavia Hills on Tuesday. The Fulton native fought valiantly, but finished one spot outside of the Top 25 to place in a tie for 26th. A pair of 5-over-par's coupled with Ramey's second-round 3-over-par, left him with a 13-over-par 223.

Playing in his first collegiate tournament on the Bulldogs' team scorecard was true freshman Haraldur Magnus. The Iceland native compiled a total score of 224 for the Jerry Pate. Magnus finished 30th with his 14-over-par tournament.

Junior Joe Sakulpolphaisan rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring at the Old Overton Country Club. Sakulpolphaisan fired off State's best score on Tuesday, leaving the course with a 2-over-par 72. The Thailand native finished his forth tournament appearance for the Maroon and White with a 16-over-par.

The Bulldogs' focus will now shift to the fall's final tournament, the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
