Maroons Rally To Win Scrimmage; DuBose Stars In Alumni Game
Sophomore lefty Jacob Lindgren (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) scattered a run on six hits during his three-inning start and freshman John Marc Shelly (Germantown, Tenn.) worked a perfect seventh to preserve the win for the Maroons. Junior shortstop Adam Frazier (Bishop, Ga.) reached base twice in three plate appearances and scored a pair of runs.
Sophomore righty Trevor Fitts (Helena, Ala.) turned in a solid performance on the mound for the White squad, allowing one base-runner and registering three strikeouts over three innings. Sophomore outfielder Tyler Fullerton (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) cracked a solo home run and a bunt single to pace the White squad at the plate in the seven-inning game.
In a preliminary three-inning alumni game, the Alumni White team rode the pitching of former Baltimore Orioles lefty Eric DuBose (1995-97) to a 4-1 win over the Alumni Maroons. DuBose retired all three batters he faced and later drove in a run. 2006 Ferris Trophy winner Thomas Berkery (2003-06) went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored for the winning squad.
Jeff Flagg (2006-08) claimed the home run derby, belting three home runs in five pitches, one more than former Bulldog infielder Nick Vickerson (2009-11), currently with the Texas Rangers' organization.
State will close out the weekend scrimmages with a 12 p.m. fall practice intrasquad game at Dudy Noble Field. The scrimmage is also open to the public.
