TULSA, Okla. - After defeating another Top 20 opponent in their first match of the day, Mississippi State's Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp fell just short of the semifinals at the ITA All-American, falling to Auburn's 24th-ranked tandem of Dan Cochrane and Andreas Mies 8-4.
In their round of 16 match, the Bulldog duo defeated the 17th-ranked Wake Forest team of David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhakar 8-6. That win came on the heels of the duo's 8-5 victory against Tennessee's 6th-ranked and number three seed team of John Collins and Hunter Reese Thursday.
"Jordan and Malte played a lot of matches this tournament, which is what we needed," coach Per Nillson said. "It is great to see their improvement from match to match. Great effort from those two."
Angus and Stropp's run to the quarterfinals was the best finish by a Bulldog duo at the ITA All-American since 2004, when Luiz Carvalho and Jose-Carlos Pinto reached the semifinals.
In singles action, Stropp faced Tennessee's 34th-ranked Hunter Reese in the Round of 16 consolation play, but dropped his match 6-1, 6-4.
The Bulldogs will return to action at the ITA Southern Region Indoor Championships, running from Oct. 18-22 in Auburn, Ala.
