VB Bulldogs Host No. 12 Florida In 12:30 P.M. Match Sunday
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Bulldogs close out their 2012 September schedule with perhaps their toughest challenge of the season Sunday afternoon when Mississippi State (4-9, 0-4 SEC) plays host to SEC-leading Florida (10-2, 4-0 SEC) at the Newell-Grissom Building. First serve on MSU Staff Appreciation Day is set for 12:30 p.m. and there is no charge for admission. Fans can view a free online video stream of the match at www.hailstate.com/hstvlive.
Florida, ranked 12th and the lone unbeaten SEC team in league play this fall, registered a 3-1 win at South Carolina Friday night. Mississippi State, meanwhile, dropped a 3-2 marathon to defending SEC West champion LSU in a match that saw Bulldog freshman Roxanne McVey set a Southeastern Conference mark for digs in a match. The rookie libero from Magnolia, Texas, bettered the previous league record of 46 digs registered in 2006 by former Florida great Elyse Cusack.
Freshmen Sarah Temperilli and Taylor Scott had 19 kills and 18 kills respectively and senior Chanelle Baker finished with a career-best 16 as the Bulldogs registered a season-high 71 kills against LSU.
Sunday's match is the last in the Newell-Grissom Building until November for MSU. State's two October home matches, Oct. 19 against South Carolina and Oct. 21 against Arkansas, have been moved to Humphrey Coliseum in conjunction with special Homecoming weekend scheduling on campus.
