Soccer Hosts No. 6 Texas A&M Sunday To Wrap Homestand
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State has the opportunity to end a four-match SEC homestand on a strong note as No. 6 Texas A&M comes to Starkville Sunday afternoon for a 3 p.m. kickoff on Cox Sports Television.
Sunday's match, the first between the two programs, will feature several contests for great prizes from game sponsor R. Tabb & Co. Five $20 gift cards to local restaurants will also be given away at the game.
In addition to the CST broadcast, the game will also be available on ESPN3 outside the SEC footprint.
Mississippi State will be seeking to knock off a top-10 opponent for the first time since 2006, a 3-2 win against No. 8 Tennessee. The last time the Bulldogs hosted a top-10 foe was 2009 when the team played to 1-1 draws against No. 7 Florida and No. 8 South Carolina.
State enters Sunday's contest looking to rebound from a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to LSU Friday night that dropped MSU to 7-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in SEC play.
Mississippi State junior Elisabeth Sullivan had two shots on goal Friday night, including a chance during a first-half barrage that saw State hit the post and the crossbar.
The Memphis native has put together a banner season, leading the team with 17 points and seven goals.
Another Tennessee native, freshman Honeye Heydari, has also enjoyed a stellar year for the Dawgs. The Jackson native has been one of the SEC's top rookies, compiling 14 points on five goals and four assists.
Senior Skylar Rosson returns in goal for Mississippi State after a red card against Tennessee last Sunday forced her to miss Friday's contest.
Rosson has 40 saves in 2012, and with 289 for her career, she needs just two to tie former Bulldog All-SEC keeper Kirstin Olson for second all-time.
Rosson and her teammates meet an SEC West-leading Aggies squad that rallied to tie Kentucky 2-2 in Lexington Friday night.
TAMU moved to 4-0-1 in the league and 10-1-1 overall despite having a seven-match shutout streak halted.
Kelley Monogue hit both goals, including the equalizer in the 84th minute. She rates second on the squad with six goals and 12 points.
Annie Kunz leads Texas A&M's attack with 14 points on seven goals.
Goalie Jordan Day has spent every minute in net this season, stopping 37 shots against just five goals.
