MSU Cross Country Teams Travel North For Notre Dame Invite

MSU joins fellow Southeastern Conference foes Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M at the meet hosted by the Fighting Irish.
Renee Masterson, who finished eighth in the 6K with an impressive time of 21:25.57, paced the Lady Bulldogs en route to a fourth-place finish at Vanderbilt. Jodie McGuff and Chloe Phillips also notched Top 25 finishes for the Maroon and White, who finished the meet with 117 total points.
The men also completed an impressive showing in Nashville, accumulating 183 points on the way to a fifth-place finish, just ahead of rival Ole Miss. John Valentine (22nd, 25:17.22) and Philip Johnson (33rd, 25:36.37) led the way for the Bulldogs in the 8K.
"Ideally, we'd love to have as many guys as possible running below the 25-minute mark," Johnson said.
Action begins Friday with the Women's Gold Race at 2 p.m., followed by the Men's Gold Race at 2:45 p.m.
"We'd like to build on the success from our last meet," Johnson said. "We want to be the best SEC team at Notre Dame this weekend."
Following the return from South Bend, MSU will begin preparing for the Crimson Classic held in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 13.
