STARKVILLE, Miss - The Mississippi State football trio of senior defensive back Johnthan Banks, senior linebacker Cameron Lawrence and junior offensive lineman Gabe Jackson were named to the 2012 Southeastern Conference Preseason Media Days All-SEC Team, the league announced Thursday.

A 2012 preseason All-American by Phil Steele and Athlon, Banks was named to the second-team defense by the media, marking the eighth different time this summer the Maben, Miss., native has been named to a preseason All-SEC team. A member of the Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy, Thorpe Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, Banks was also named to the All-SEC third team as an all-purpose player, his fourth preseason honor for his special teams' work. Last season, Lindy's "Best Cover Corner in the SEC" was the only cornerback in the conference to rack up at least 70 tackles and record five interceptions.

Jackson was named to the second-team offense by the media after starting in all 13 games at left guard and leading the offensive line with 67 takedowns. In addition, the 2011 Scout.com sophomore All-America selection is a member of four other preseason All-SEC squads after anchoring an offensive line that reached the top 10 in school history for single-season marks in passing touchdowns, passing completions, total yards and first downs.

On the defensive side of the ball, Lawrence earned third-team honors after racking up 123 tackles in 2011, including 50 solo stops. The leading returning tackler in the SEC recorded 6.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery in 13 starts for the Maroon and White a year ago. In a vote by the league's 14 football information directors last month, the Butkus Award Watch List member was also named preseason first-team All-SEC. In addition, Lawrence was placed on the preseason All-SEC squad by Athlon (third team) and Phil Steele (fourth team).
