Jacob Wells Named Coordinator Of MSU Baseball Camps

Wells, 29, joins the Mississippi State baseball staff after serving the past five years on the coaching staff at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Ala., the last two seasons (2011-2012) as the Tigers' head coach. During his five seasons at MMI Wells coached 11 players who earned all-conference and all-region accolades and one player, current MSU pitcher Luis Pollorena, who was honored as the 2010 Alabama Community College Conference Player of the Year. He has also previously served as camp manager for youth baseball camps in Montevallo, Ala., and Devine, Texas, and as a manager for the Alabama Special Olympics State Tournament.
Wells earned all-state honors as a catcher during his prep career at Devine (Texas) High School. He continued his baseball career at Blinn (Texas) College, Lurleen B. Wallace (Ala.) Community College and at the University of Montevallo, where in 2005 he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology /Health Promotions. Wells later played baseball on the professional level in the United League with the Laredo (Texas) Broncos in 2009 and 2010.
He is married to the former Melissa Sherrod of Longview, Texas.
