Nick Routt, Kendall Graveman Selected In MLB Draft
Selected Wednesday were junior left-hander Nick Routt (3-5, 3.80) from Silver Spring, Md., a 16th-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds, and righty Kendall Graveman (4-4, 2.81) from Alexander City, Ala., taken in the 36th round by the Miami Marlins.
Routt has compiled a 12-12 career record with a 4.06 earned run average in 50 appearances, 39 of those as a starter. Routt averaged nearly a strikeout per inning pitched, registering 196 strikeouts in 207.0 innings pitched. He registered five complete games during his MSU career, including a staff-high four CGs during a freshman campaign in which he was accorded PingBaseball.com Freshman All-America and SEC All-Freshman Team honors.
Graveman led the MSU staff with 16 starts in 2012, recording 59 strikeouts in 89.2 innings pitched. He registered the first complete game in the SEC in 2012 with a route-going victory in a series-finale at LSU. Graveman earned an impressive win in his final road start of the campaign, combining with relief ace Jonathan Holder on a three-hit, 2-0 shutout at Florida. Graveman is 11-8 with one save and a 4.03 career earned run average with 118 strikeouts in 49 appearances (29 starts) and 196.1 innings. Graveman was named to the 2012 SEC All-Defensive Team this year, marking the first such honor for a Diamond Dog since the league initiated the defensive all-star unit in 2008.
Junior right-hander Chris Stratton (11-2, 2.38) became MSU's 11th first-round draft selection Monday night when the San Francisco Giants made the Tupelo, Miss., native the 20th player selected in this year's draft.
