Kim Pettit Nominated For SEC's McWhorter Post-Graduate Scholarship
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Former Mississippi State midfielder Kim Pettit has been nominated for the SEC's H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship, the league office announced Friday.
Pettit was nominated along with Bulldog tennis player Louis Cant. Baseball's Caleb Reed and MSU softball player Misty Flesher were nominated for the league's Brad Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship.
"Kim is very deserving of this nomination," MSU head coach Neil Macdonald said. "She has been an outstanding representative for Mississippi State University and our soccer program. Kim is the epitome of a student-athlete. She puts forth 100-percent effort on and off the field, and she was an outstanding captain for our program."
Pettit played in 53 games during her Bulldog career, scoring 11 points on five goals and an assist.
This past season, the two-year team captain was named Mississippi State's representative on the SEC Community Service Team. The Madison, Miss., native has served the past year as president of MSU's M-Club after previously holding the offices of vice president and treasurer.
Pettit is scheduled to receive her degree in psychology in May. She has earned SEC Academic Honor Roll laurels every year of her career and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship is presented annually to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.
