Bulldogs Host Memphis, Free Clinic Saturday Afternoon
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Neil Macdonald's Mississippi State soccer team has traveled around Our State this spring, but the tour comes home to Starkville Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs host Memphis in a 2 p.m. exhibition match at the MSU Soccer Field.
Following the contest, Mississippi State's coaches and players will host a free clinic for youth players ages 6-12. Free Bulldog soccer T-shirts will be given out to the first 100 players.
"We had a great time touring the state, and we are excited to come back and play at home," Macdonald said. "Memphis is a very good team, but our club has performed very well this spring and will be up to the challenge."
The Tigers finished last season third in the Soccer America national poll and No. 9 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire rankings after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Saturday's exhibition match is MSU's first on-field competition since closing February with a 5-1 victory against Southern Mississippi in Gulfport.
The Bulldogs return 10 players who drew 10 or more starts a year ago, including top goal scorers Elisabeth Sullivan and Jasmine Simmons, and SEC saves leader Skylar Rosson.
