NEW ORLEANS, La. - Mississippi State Lady Bulldog tennis came back from an early 2-0 deficit to post a 4-3 triumph against the 52nd-ranked Green Wave of Tulane University in New Orleans Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, State improved to 5-7 overall. Tulane fell to 12-3 with the loss.

Tulane gained an early 1-0 advantage in the match by taking wins at all three doubles positions. Caroline Magnusson and Caroline Thornton paired up at the No. 2 position to defeat MSU's Ekaterina Iakovleva and Naomi Tran in an 8-0 decision. Mariam Kurzdale and Emma Levy delivered a similar fate to Alexandra Perper and Olesya Tsigvintseva at the top spot of the line up, posting an 8-5 victory. Roseline Dion and Petra Ferancova closely contested Lindsay Dvorak and Hila Elster on court three, but the MSU duo were unable to hold them off, falling 8-7(4) in the contest.

Tulane maintained a hold on competition early in singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 victory for Levy against MSU's Olesya Tsigvintseva at the No. 2 position.

But a 6-3, 6-1 victory for MSU's 115th-ranked Perper on court one put the Lady Bulldogs on the board, and turned the momentum in their favor. State's Iakovleva evened the score at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Tulane's Thornton on court three.

Tulane advanced to a 3-2 lead as Magnusson took down Tran at the No. 4 position in a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 three-set battle, but Mississippi State answered back as Petra Ferancova downed Dvorak on court five 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

The fate of the match then rested on the result at the No. 6 position, where State's Dion faced TU's Emma Helisten in a very tight two-set bout. Competition remained close throughout the first set, but Dion was able to hold off Helisten and win 7-6(6) in a tiebreaker. The second set was equally thrilling, but Dion maintained control, winning the second set 7-5 and clinching the 4-3 victory for the Lady Bulldogs.

Head Coach Daryl Greenan was very pleased with his team's performance.

"That was a big win for us today, especially after losing the doubles so convincingly," Greenan said. "The girls did a great job battling back. It all came down to Petra and Rosie needing wins and they were able to step up which was huge for them."

The Lady Bulldogs now remain in the Crescent City for a Friday match against the University of New Orleans. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. and updates will be available through twitter: @mstateWT.
