COLUMBIA, S.C. - An improved hitting percentage and another strong showing at the net went unrewarded for the Bulldogs Saturday night as the South Carolina Gamecocks rebounded from a 2-1 match deficit to claim a five-set SEC volleyball win over State. USC (7-20, 4-13 SEC) completed the two-match series sweep, winning 25-22, 17-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-12. USC claimed a five-set win over the Bulldogs in Starkville earlier this season.

State (11-17, 3-14 SEC) out-hit USC .196 to .182 and held a 14-8 advantage in total team blocking. Caitlin Rance registered a match-leading 17 kills and backed that with 10 digs for her 11th double-double of the year. Ashley Newsome had 14 kills and a match-high eight blocks while Chanelle Baker tallied 10 kills. Setter Paris Perret also notched a double-double with 46 assists and 14 digs. Mandy Mellencamp and Hannah Wilkinson finished with six blocks each.

Megan Laughlin finished with 15 kills on a .353 hitting night for USC. Juliette Thevenin had 14 kills, 23 digs and four blocks while Hannah Lawing had 10 kills and 38 of USC's 114 digs.

State returns to action and closes out its 2010 home schedule this weekend with a pair of matches at the Newell-Grissom Building. MSU entertains Georgia Friday in a 7 p.m. match on senior night before hosting SEC West rival Auburn Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in its season home finale.
