PENSACOLA, Fla. – Day two of qualifying play at the 2013 USTA Pensacola Futures brought another victory for the Mississippi State men’s tennis squad, as freshman Florian Lakat advanced to the third round on Saturday.
Lakat battled fellow Bulldog Zach White, who took off the fall season and will return in the spring. After dropping the first set 6-2, Lakat battled back to take second set and held off the 10th-seeded White’s third-set rally to take the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
MSU’s other remaining participant, freshman Robin Haden, matched up against Korey Lovett, falling 7-5, 6-4 in a tight battle. The loss ends Haden’s run at the Pensacola Futures.
Lakat will return to action Sunday, facing Blaze Schwartz in third round play. The MSU freshman needs two more qualifying wins to move into the tourney’s main draw.
