State Women's Tennis Fall At Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Mississippi State Lady Bulldog tennis (6-8, 0-6 SEC) completed a five-match road swing Sunday with a tough 7-0 loss against the No. 38 ranked Lady Wildcats of Kentucky (12-5, 3-3).

Kentucky took an early advantage in the day's competition, claiming the doubles point with some tight wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.

The Kentucky duo of Khristina Blajkevitch and Stephanie Fox notched the first doubles win, taking down MSU's Roseline Dion and Sarai Flores in an 8-5 decision on court 3. The Lady Bulldogs evened things in doubles with a win on court 2 for Petra Ferancova and Georgiana Patrasc, who defeated Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff and CeCe Witten of Kentucky 8-5.

Caitlin McGraw and Nadia Ravita of UK then secured the doubles point, posting a close 8-6 triumph against the Lady Bulldogs' 46th-ranked pair of Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran at the No. 1 position.

Kentucky extended its lead to 2-0 as the team's No. 38 ranked Ravita defeated Lady Bulldog true freshman Patrasc in a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the top spot in the lineup. MSU's Perper fell 6-2 in the first set on court 2 to Jessica Stiles of the Lady Wildcats before rallying back to take a 3-1 lead in the second set. Unfortunately for MSU, Stiles stifled Perper's lead, making a come back the take the match 6-2, 7-5.

Caitlin McGraw, a junior for the Lady Wildcats, clinched Kentucky's third SEC win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against MSU sophomore Petra Ferancova on court 4.

Lady Bulldog Naomi Tran took the first set on court 3 in a 6-3 decision, but was unable to hold off Kentucky's Morin-Kougoucheff in the second set falling in a tiebreaker 7-6(6). The two battled through the match's deciding super tiebreaker, but in the end Morin-Kougoucheff took a 3-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(7) triumph.

The Lady Wildcats posted victories on the two remaining courts to complete the day's action. MSU freshman Lien Van Geel fell 6-1, 6-3 to Kentucky's Kristin Lewis on court 5 to bring the UK lead to 6-0. Dion of the Lady Bulldogs followed with a 6-1, 6-0 loss at the No. 6 position against Fox of Kentucky.

State will return home to host matches against No. 41 Arkansas and No. 66 LSU on March 22 and 24, respectively, at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre on the MSU campus. Match times are set for 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. Updates will be available through twitter @mstateWT and hailstate.com.
