Lady Bulldogs Fifth Entering Final Round Of Westbrook Invitational
The Lady Bulldogs found themselves third at the end of round one after firing an 11-over-par 299. During the day's second 18 holes, they notched a 307. MSU's two-round 606 tied No. 42 Wisconsin for fifth-place, just three shots back of fourth.
"I thought we came out strong in the first round and handled the weather conditions very well," said third-year MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. "We struggled a little in the second round but these 36-hole days really test your endurance both mentally and physically. The girls are exceptional 'one-shot warriors' and must continue with that mindset. We have the opportunity to knock off a few teams ranked ahead of us tomorrow so we are in a good position."
Three Lady Bulldogs are on pace for a Top 25 finish. Ally McDonald paced the squad with 17th-place, 6-over-par 150. Holes No. 12-15 gave the sophomore standout fits during the two rounds as she was 5-over on those four holes alone.
Elena Warren trailed McDonald by a single shot with a career-best 36-hole card of 151. Her opening-round 75 is also a season-best. The Austin, Texas, native is tied for 20th and on pace for her first-career Top 25 finish.
Junior Mary Langdon Gallagher fired a season-best 8-over-par 152 en route to a share of 22nd place.
SEC-foe and seventh-ranked Arkansas is currently the tournament leader with a 7-over-par 583, while No. 9 Washington and No. 15 Texas Tech are each just two strokes back.
Elin Arvidsson (Texas Tech), SooBoo Kim (Washington) and Gabriele Lopez (Arkansas) all carded 2-under-par 142's and are tied atop the individual leaderboard entering the final round.
Final-round action begins Monday at 9:30 a.m. CST with the Lady Bulldogs set to tee off along side Wisconsin and Kansas State.
